First Lady Michelle Obama and the U.S. Department of Education (ED) formally launched a competition to promote the development of mobile app solutions that will help students navigate education and career pathways, including career and technical education (CTE). The competition is a part of the First Lady's "Reach Higher" initiative, which seeks to inspire every student in America to take charge of their future by completing their education past high school, whether at a professional training program, a community college, or a four-year college or university.

In case you haven’t heard, this past July New York State Education Commissioner, MaryEllen Elia, has made a significant stride in education.

Uncommon Approaches to the Common Core is an annual conference aimed at classroom teachers, school librarians, public librarians, academic librarians, public historians, and representatives from museums, archives, public television, NYS historic sites, performing arts and other cultural organizations.

Angela Rosheim, a library media specialist, faced a problem: Her elementary school students were requesting materials during genius hour—a time in which teachers provide resources for students to study topics of personal interest—that the school didn't have.
