Math and Sculptures

Math and Sculptures

In this sculpture exploration lesson, students will look at works of art, create works of art, and possibly visit the works of art in order to connect real-life problems to mathematical concepts such as: symmetry, area, volume, shapes, geometry, and density. Students will learn to view and analyze sculptures in order to:

  1. Identify symmetry
  2. Find measurements
  3. Solve for area or perimeter
  4. Apply concepts of density and volume
  5. Recognize and label shapes
  6. Apply geometric methods to satisfy physical constraints.
